Here the block has been cut to a more or less straight-sided shape. A small slab of briar has been glued to the side in order to make it easier to mount in the lathe. In front you see the plastic template we've made for this very shape. It makes it much easier to find a suitable block of briar, and to transfer the markings for the drilling and turning.
